Raj Thackeray opposed the imposition of Hindi in Maharashtra schools, accusing the government of a hidden agenda. He warned that any forced Hindi policy would face resistance from MNS.
Mumbai | June 18, 2025: The Maharashtra State government’s decision to make Hindi as a third language in Marathi and English medium schools from classes 1 to 5 has sparked a major controversy. Though the government claims to have rolled back the decision after widespread protests, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) alleges that it’s merely a game of words and that the Hindi agenda is still being pushed — this time quietly.
Reacting strongly, MNS chief Raj Thackeray held a press conference and openly challenged the government, warning:
“Hindi will not be imposed in Maharashtra under any circumstances. If it is, my soldiers will come to meet you.”
“I had written two letters to the government about Hindi. I’ll read them out. The third letter I wrote five days ago will be sent today. If children don’t want to learn a third language, why are textbooks being printed? Don’t support this agenda. If the government pressures you, resist it. The people of the north want to take over a cultured Maharashtra. Don’t fall for it.”
Thackeray urged teachers and parents to stay firm. “If you stand your ground, we are with you. If not, we’ll see it as a betrayal of Maharashtra,” he said. he further added, “This government is riding on paper horses. They’re trying to push Hindi through back doors. This is not mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP). They’re lying. If Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka haven’t made Hindi compulsory, why should Maharashtra?”
Thackeray questioned the intent behind the policy, asking:“What exactly is this government trying to do? Is there pressure from an IAS lobby? Is this part of a plan to ‘Hindi-ize’ Maharashtra?”
He also warned school authorities; “If you help the government secretly push Hindi, if you burden children with a language they neither need nor want, my ideological soldiers will visit you. We will see how Hindi is being taught in schools — let the government treat this as a challenge.”
