Pune Police have detained a 26-year-old repeat offender under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act and sent him to Nashik Central Jail for one year. The move is part of a crackdown on habitual criminals to ensure public safety and curb rising urban crime.
Pune, April 21, 2025: In a major crackdown on habitual offenders, Pune Police have detained a 26-year-old man from Gokhale Nagar under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act. The accused, who has been involved in multiple cases related to substance abuse and violent crimes, has been sent to Nashik Central Jail for a period of one year.
This action follows growing concerns over repeated offenses by individuals who continue to pose a threat to public safety despite multiple arrests. The detention was carried out under Section 3(2) of the MPDA Act, 1981, which allows preventive custody of individuals engaging in dangerous or disruptive activities that endanger public order.
The operation was executed by the Chaturshringi Police Station, with oversight from senior officials of Pune Police. Teams from the crime branch, surveillance units, and women officers collaborated to monitor the accused and gather supporting evidence before the legal order was issued. Their coordinated efforts led to a swift and lawful detention.
Police officials emphasized that this preventive measure aims to disrupt the cycle of recurring criminal behavior in urban areas. By isolating a known repeat offender from the public for a year, authorities hope to not only prevent further crimes but also send a strong warning to others engaging in similar unlawful activities.
This case highlights the proactive use of legal tools like the MPDA Act by law enforcement agencies to strengthen public safety and uphold law and order in rapidly growing cities like Pune.
