Kupwara, Sangli | June 11, 2025
While the nation is still grappling with the viral honeymoon murder case of Sonam Raghuvanshi, a similar and chilling incident has come to light in Kupwara, Sangli, Maharashtra, where a newlywed woman allegedly killed her husband with an axe.

The incident occurred on the night of Vat Purnima, a day when married women traditionally pray for their husband’s long life. Ironically, the accused, Radhika Ingle, brutally murdered her husband, Anil Tanaji Lokhande (50), while he was asleep.

Second Marriage Ends in Tragedy

Anil had married Radhika on May 17, just 15 days before his death, following the demise of his first wife. However, marital tensions surfaced within a week. According to police sources, a heated argument between the couple a few days earlier may have triggered the fatal attack.

In the early hours of Vat Purnima, Radhika allegedly struck Anil on the head with an axe, killing him on the spot at their home in Ekta Nagar, Kupwara. The Kupwara MIDC police arrested her immediately after receiving the murder report and sent the body for autopsy.

Motive Under Investigation

The police are now investigating several angles:

An official said, “We are trying to determine whether there were any warning signs or history of violence.”

This case, surfacing right after the Raghuvanshi case, has added to growing concerns around rising domestic violence and shocking crimes within newly formed marriages.
