A Sangli teacher faces homicide charges after allegedly beating his daughter to death over a failed exam. Police investigation continues as the case highlights extreme academic pressure and domestic violence.
Sangli, June 23, 2025: A tragic case of parental violence has shaken the small village of Nelkaranji in Maharashtra’s Sangli district after a 48-year-old physical education teacher allegedly beat his 17-year-old daughter to death for failing a college examination. Dhondiram Bhosale was arrested Sunday following his wife’s police complaint, which detailed how he assaulted their teenager with a wooden stick on Friday night in a fit of rage over her academic performance.
According to Atpadi police, the victim sustained critical injuries during the brutal beating and later died at a nearby hospital. Authorities have charged Bhosale under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (equivalent to culpable homicide) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which deals with cruelty to children. Inspector Vinay Bahir confirmed the postmortem revealed severe physical trauma consistent with violent assault.
Neighbors described the family as consisting of Bhosale, his wife, their deceased daughter, and an elder son. Police are currently investigating whether underlying domestic issues contributed to the extreme reaction, while emphasizing this as a severe case of domestic violence with fatal consequences. The accused remains in police custody as authorities continue gathering evidence and witness statements.
This heartbreaking incident has sparked conversations about academic pressure and domestic violence in rural communities, with child welfare advocates calling for better support systems to prevent such tragedies.
