A family argument in Shirur escalated into violence when a son-in-law assaulted his father-in-law over concerns about domestic abuse. The incident has left the community shaken, with police investigating the assault and threats issued during the altercation.
Pune | 26 July, 2025: In a distressing incident in Shelrvadi, Shirur, a family discussion turned violent, resulting in a brutal attack on a father-in-law by his son-in-law and two others. The altercation, which occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, around 2 pm, stemmed from a confrontation over alleged mistreatment of a daughter, leaving the community in shock and raising concerns about domestic violence and family disputes.
Bandu Bapurao Hatagle, a 45-year-old laborer from Vadgaon Rasai, originally from Mangrul in Beed district, had confronted his son-in-law, Sachin Narayan Ghorpade, about physically harming his daughter. The discussion, meant to address family concerns, took a violent turn when Sachin, enraged by the questioning, assaulted his wife in front of her father, grabbing her by the hair and slamming her to the ground. When Bandu stepped in to intervene, the situation escalated further.
Sachin, along with Narayan Sitaram Ghorpade and Rajabhau Raghunath Khandagle, turned their aggression on Bandu. Narayan struck Bandu on the head with a stick, and the trio then knocked him to the ground, attacking him with kicks and punches. The assault was accompanied by threats to Bandu’s life, intensifying the gravity of the incident. The violence left Bandu injured and the family traumatized, highlighting the devastating impact of unchecked domestic disputes.
The Shirur police have registered a case against Sachin Narayan Ghorpade, Narayan Sitaram Ghorpade, and Rajabhau Raghunath Khandagle, all residents of Karandi, Shirur, under relevant legal provisions. The investigation, led by Police Inspector Sandesh Kenzle, is underway to uncover the full details of the incident and ensure justice for Bandu. The police are working to determine the circumstances that led to such a violent outburst and whether prior tensions contributed to the attack.
