Rainfall to intensify in the Ghats of western Maharashtra as Shravan nears. IMD issues yellow and orange alerts in districts including Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara. Citizens advised to stay alert.
Pune | 22 July, 2025: As the month of Ashadh ends and Shravan approaches, western Maharashtra braces for renewed rainfall, particularly in the hilly Ghats, with weather alerts issued across multiple districts.
Despite a noticeable dip in rainfall intensity in urban and low-lying areas, the Ghats are expected to witness heavy showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued district-wise alerts for July 22, urging caution.
In Pune, light showers are expected, but the Ghats could face heavier spells in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been sounded. The city’s temperatures will hover around a maximum of 30°C and minimum of 22°C.
Satara district recorded just 0.4 mm of rain in the past day, but an orange alert has been issued for the Ghats. The temperature is expected to remain steady at around 30°C.
In Kolhapur, rainfall measured at 2 mm in the past 24 hours. The city experienced a maximum of 28.6°C, and the upcoming day’s high will be close to 28°C. An orange alert remains in force for the Ghats, where heavy downpours are anticipated.
Solapur, which received intermittent rain, saw the mercury rise to 34.4°C. The forecast indicates a slight dip, with a maximum of 33°C expected and light rain likely.
In Sangli, light showers were reported, prompting a yellow alert due to the potential for rain accompanied by lightning. Daytime temperatures will likely reach 32°C, with lows around 23°C.
Looking ahead, weather experts suggest that while rainfall may taper off across plains and cities, Ghats will continue to experience intense showers. Citizens in these regions are advised to remain vigilant and follow local advisories.
