Parliament debates Operation Sindoor; Tejashwi Surya criticizes Nehru, Supriya Sule counters with Indian Army history, video of speech goes viral.
New Delhi | July 29, 2025: The ongoing monsoon session of Parliament witnessed an intense debate over ‘Operation Sindoor’ on Monday, led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. While representatives from both the ruling and opposition benches participated, the atmosphere turned especially charged when BJP MP Tejashwi Surya criticized India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Surya’s remark, alleging that Nehru never encouraged the Indian armed forces, triggered strong opposition. In response, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule delivered a sharp rebuttal in Parliament, defending the legacy of India’s armed forces and their contributions under Nehru’s leadership.
Sule said, “Calling India’s early defence record weak is an insult to millions of soldiers and their families.” She recalled pivotal military operations such as the 1948 Indo-Pak war, Operation Polo for Hyderabad’s integration, the liberation of Goa in 1961, and the victories in the 1965 and 1971 wars. Emphasizing the historic surrender of 90,000 Pakistani troops during the Bangladesh Liberation War, she refuted claims that Indian military strength began only recently.
Sule also highlighted bipartisan cooperation during Operation Sindoor, stating that Union Minister Kiren Rijiju had personally reached out to her, and that the Prime Minister had shown faith in opposition leaders to lead delegations. She underlined how the Congress party and the opposition had expressed full support for the central government, prioritizing national interest over politics.
The video of Supriya Sule’s speech is now going viral on social media, drawing praise from many quarters for her detailed and spirited defense of India’s military history.
