Mumbai | August 5, 2025: The sudden and suspicious death of Sanjay Kapoor, ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, has shaken the film and business world alike. Now, a major development has emerged, as Sanjay Kapoor’s mother, Rani Kapoor, has formally written to UK police demanding a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
Grieving and desperate for answers, Rani Kapoor recently told Media, “I still don’t know the cause of my son’s death. I am of age now. I want clarity on this matter before I die.” Taking her plea forward, she has filed a criminal complaint in the United Kingdom and formally urged British law enforcement to launch a full-fledged probe, citing mysterious circumstances around her son’s passing.
In addition, Rani Kapoor, through her legal counsel, has written to the board of Sona Comstar—an auto component company co-founded by her husband and Sanjay Kapoor—demanding the postponement of their Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled on July 25. She has accused the company of misusing documents, applying undue pressure, and attempting to take over the family’s inheritance.
In response, Sona Comstar has clarified that Rani Kapoor neither holds shares nor any official role in the company, and thus, legally cannot influence company affairs. A public statement from the company stated, “Her consent is not required to run the business.” In a filing to the stock exchange on July 28, Sona Comstar also emphasized that it is not a family-run business and confirmed that Rani Kapoor has had no role—directly or indirectly—since 2019.
The matter has further intensified due to an ongoing legal tussle over the family’s inheritance and company control. With a criminal complaint now active in the UK, the mystery surrounding Sanjay Kapoor’s death deepens, and the Kapoor family feud over business succession continues to escalate.
