In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Pune Rural Police, led by Superintendent Sandeep Singh Gill, have solved a brutal murder case in Panchet within 24 hours, arresting five suspects. The incident, registered on June 16, 2025, at Velhe Police Station under Crime No. 73/2025, falls under Sections 103(1), 3(5), 189(2), and 111(2) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The crime involved the killing of 24-year-old Rohidas Kaluram Katkar from Kadve, Velhe, who was fatally assaulted with a stone during a minor altercation with a group of five unidentified youths on June 15, 2025, near Nandabai Kumbhar’s hotel in Mouje Panchet. The swift action by the Local Crime Branch and Velhe Police has brought the perpetrators to justice.

The incident unfolded when Rohidas, a local resident, confronted the group smoking cigarettes, sparking a heated argument that escalated into violence. The assailants struck him on the chest with a stone, causing his immediate death, before fleeing on a black Activa and Splendor motorcycle toward Pune. His brother, Avidas Kaluram Katkar (23), lodged a complaint against the unidentified men, prompting an urgent response from the police. Recognizing the gravity of the case, Superintendent Gill, along with Additional Superintendent Ramesh Chopde, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Kumar Pujari, and Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, rushed to the scene. A thorough investigation, aided by CCTV footage, traced the suspects’ black Activa (MH 12 KH 9642) to Nane Ambegaon.

The crime branch, in collaboration with Velhe Police, followed the footage trail, identifying the Activa parked near a clothing store in Walhekar Chowk. Contacting the vehicle’s owner, Ganesh Navghare, revealed that his friend Akash Subhash Bhise had borrowed it. This led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Akash Bhise (21) from Charbhuj Residency, Nane, who confessed to the crime. His accomplices—Bhagwat Munjaji Asuri (20), Ritesh Uttam Jogdand (21), Umesh alias Bhaiyya Rambhau Shelke (21), and Pandurang Bhanudas Sonawane (19), all from Parbhani—were also apprehended. The group admitted to visiting Panchet for a ride on June 15, 2025, and attacking Rohidas during a dispute around 7:00 PM.

This rapid resolution highlights the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in tourist-prone areas like Panchet. The operation, guided by senior officers and executed by a dedicated team including Sub-Inspectors Nitin Khamgal and Rahul Gavde, and constables Sachin Ghadge, Ajit Bhujbal, and others, ensured the suspects were remanded to custody. Further investigation is being handled by Police Sub-Inspector Amit Deshmukh at Velhe Police Station. The community is urged to remain vigilant, and updates will be shared through official channels.
