Thane Police seized ₹3.97 crore worth of MD drugs in two operations. Two accused, including a disguised delivery boy, were arrested. Both are in custody as further investigation continues.
Thane | July 30, 2025: In a major success against drug trafficking, the Thane Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Squad and Unit One have seized mephedrone (MD) worth a staggering ₹3 crore 97 lakh in two separate operations. Two alleged smugglers, Irfan Amanullah Sheikh and Shahrukh Sattar Mewasi alias Rizwan, have been arrested.
Delivery Boy Caught With ₹3.04 Crore Drugs in Daighar
Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Squad laid a trap in the Daighar area on the road from Shilphata to Divagaon on the evening of July 27. A suspicious individual dressed as a food delivery boy was stopped and searched. Police found 1.522 kg of MD drugs in his possession, valued at ₹3.04 crore.
The accused, identified as Irfan Amanullah Sheikh, was arrested on the spot and booked under the NDPS Act at Daighar Police Station. The court has remanded him to police custody till July 31. This case highlights how drug traffickers are using deceptive methods, including disguises, to transport narcotics.
Second Smuggler Nabbed in Kalwa With ₹92.68 Lakh Drugs
In another operation on July 24, Unit One of the Crime Branch intercepted a smuggler based on intelligence that MD drugs were being transported on the Bhiwandi-Mumbra road. The team stopped a suspicious vehicle near Kharegaon toll booth and found 662 grams of MD drugs during the search.
The accused, 28-year-old Shahrukh Sattar Mewasi alias Rizwan from Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, was immediately arrested. The drugs seized from him are worth ₹92.68 lakh. He has been remanded in police custody till July 30.
These back-to-back crackdowns underline the Thane Police’s strong stance against drug networks and their commitment to a drug-free city.
