A 16-year-old boy in Naigaon, Mumbai, died from electrocution while retrieving a shuttlecock from a window. The current is suspected to have come from an AC unit; investigation is ongoing.

Naigaon | July 14, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded in Naigaon, Mumbai, where 16-year-old Yash Yadav lost his life due to electrocution while playing badminton with friends.

The accident occurred when a shuttlecock got stuck in the window of a first-floor flat in a residential society. In an attempt to retrieve it, Yash climbed onto the window. Unaware of a live electrical source, he came into contact with a strong current—suspected to be from an air conditioner unit—and was electrocuted. He became unconscious and got stuck to the window.

One of his friends tried to help him but also received an electric shock, causing both of them to fall. Despite immediate efforts by others to rush Yash to a hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how such a strong electric current was active on the window grille and who is liable for the negligence. Locals are demanding accountability, questioning whether faulty wiring or AC installation is to blame.

The shocking death has left the community in grief and has once again raised concerns about electrical safety in residential buildings.
