Sangli | July 10 ,2025: In a heart-wrenching incident in Kargani village, Atpadi taluka, Sangli district, a class 10 student took her own life by hanging herself in her home on Monday morning, following relentless harassment and sexual assault by a man from her village. The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the case, identified as Raju Vitthal Gend, Ramdas Gaikwad, Rohit Sarjerao Kharat, and Anil Nana Kale. One of the accused, severely injured after being attacked by enraged villagers, is receiving treatment in Sangli, while the other three are in custody and under interrogation.
The victim, who lived with her family on a farm in Kargani, was a student at the village’s secondary school. According to reports, she had been harassed for days by a group of young men who followed her and made harassing phone calls to her home. The primary accused, Raju Vitthal Gend, persistently pressured the girl for physical favors, which she resisted. Despite her refusals, Gend forcibly took her to a room in the village, where he sexually assaulted her.
Distraught by the ongoing harassment and the trauma of the assault, the victim confided in her father on Sunday night. The family decided to file a complaint at the Atpadi police station the following day. Tragically, before they could act, the girl ended her life on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
The Atpadi police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation. The arrests have been made, and the authorities are working to uncover further details surrounding the incident. The brutal assault and the subsequent suicide have sparked outrage in Kargani, with villagers demanding justice for the young victim.
