Pune | June 02 , 2025: In what is being described as Ukraine’s most significant attack on Russian territory to date, 40 Russian military aircraft were destroyed in coordinated drone strikes deep inside Russia’s Irkutsk region on Wednesday. This marks a major escalation in Ukraine’s military strategy, with drones reportedly smuggled into Russia in closed trucks to avoid detection by Russian air defense systems.

A senior Ukrainian official revealed that preparations for the attack had been underway for over a year and that President Volodymyr Zelensky personally oversaw the mission. The operation targeted four different air bases and destroyed long-range bombers such as the Tu-95, Tu-22M3, and a rare A-50 airborne radar plane.

The drone strikes came after Russia launched a missile attack on a Ukrainian military training base, killing 12 soldiers and injuring 60. The base, now under constant surveillance by Russian drones, has limited movement due to fears of further attacks.

Clashes between Russian and Ukrainian forces also continue in the Kursk region. With mounting losses and battlefield pressure, both sides are preparing for another round of direct talks in Istanbul on June 2. President Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s participation and urged Russia to agree to a ceasefire, referencing previous discussions.
