Unemployed for a year, Manipur native Sangboi Kom Serto attempted armed robbery in Pimpri Chinchwad’s Kalpataru Estate. The victims resisted, overpowered him, and handed him over to the police.

Pune | August 6, 2025 — In a shocking incident that has stirred local residents, a 40-year-old unemployed man from Manipur attempted an armed robbery at a flat in the upscale Kalpataru Estate Phase III in Pimple Gurav. The accused, Sangboi Kom Serto, was overpowered by the residents during the incident and later handed over to the Sangvi police.

According to police, Sangboi had been jobless for over a year and was currently residing in Kondhwa, Pune. Desperate due to prolonged unemployment, he allegedly chose to commit a robbery. He had been monitoring the area and targeted the home of Gagan Sitaram Badeja, who later filed the official complaint.

The incident occurred around 7 PM on July 31. Initially, the house’s doorbell rang, but no one was outside. When it rang again, Gagan Badeja himself opened the door. Sangboi, posing as a delivery person, said a parcel had arrived for Sitaram Badeja and asked for an ID. As Gagan went inside to fetch the ID, Sangboi forcibly entered the house.

Startled family members tried to stop him, but Sangboi drew a gun from his bag and pointed it at Gagan’s forehead, demanding jewelry and valuables. Gagan’s brother, who was in another room, rushed out after hearing the commotion. The thief then threatened him as well.

What followed was a violent scuffle between the brothers and the accused. Sangboi pulled out a knife from his waist and attempted to attack, but the two brothers bravely fought back. After a fierce struggle, they knocked him down, tied his hands and feet, and immediately called the police.

The Sangvi police arrived at the scene and took Sangboi into custody. They later revealed that Sangboi had no prior criminal record, and preliminary interrogation suggests the act may have stemmed from desperation and lack of income.

The police have praised the bravery of the Badeja brothers for their courage and quick thinking in overpowering an armed intruder. Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the accused acted alone or had accomplices.
