Pune – Pune and its surrounding areas experienced unseasonal rainfall today, bringing relief from the heat but also raising concerns among farmers. The rain, accompanied by lightning and thunder, began in the afternoon as dark clouds covered the sky and intensified by evening.
Several areas, including Baner, Sinhagad Road, East Pune, and the Bangalore Highway, witnessed traffic congestion due to the sudden downpour. So far, no major waterlogging has been reported, but ongoing roadwork in some areas may lead to water accumulation, causing inconvenience for commuters.
While the rain provided temporary relief from the scorching heat, it posed a serious threat to mango orchards in Western Maharashtra. With the mango season at its peak, unseasonal rains and strong winds could lead to fruit dropping and cracking, significantly impacting the harvest.
Additionally, with the Hinjewadi Metro project still incomplete, commuting remains a major challenge for IT professionals working in the IT park.
