Heavy traffic on Warje to Ganapati Matha stretches causes daily chaos due to road width issues. Locals urge authorities to widen the road as per the original development plan for smoother travel.
Pune, April 21, 2025: For years, commuters traveling on the two-kilometer stretch from Warje flyover to Ganapati Matha on NDA Road have faced regular traffic jams, particularly during peak hours. Despite being part of the original development plan that envisioned a 100-foot wide road, the stretch remains only 60 feet wide, leading to severe congestion and long delays, especially in the mornings and evenings. As a result, daily commuters and drivers in the area continue to suffer from frustration and inconvenience.
The road from Warje flyover to Ganapati Matha has been a critical route for many surrounding areas such as Warje, Shivne, Uttamnagar, Kondhave-Dhawade, and others, all of which have experienced rapid urbanization. Additionally, the area’s growing popularity as a tourist destination has further compounded the problem. As a result, traffic on this narrow stretch has increased exponentially. The morning and evening rush hours are especially problematic, with traffic often coming to a standstill between 9:00-11:30 AM and 6:00-11:00 PM.
Despite numerous complaints from citizens and even concerns raised in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly by MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, there has been no action from the authorities to address the issue. Former corporator Kiran Bartakke, who is well-versed in the development plans of the area, pointed out that the original development plan had designated this stretch as a 100-foot-wide road. The necessary markings for the expansion had even been made. According to Bartakke, the road’s widening is long overdue and is crucial to easing the daily traffic congestion.
“The current state of the road is simply not enough to handle the traffic demands of the growing area. The original plan must be followed, and the road should be widened to its designated 100-foot width,” Bartakke said. This is a critical problem that requires immediate attention to ease the daily struggles of both commuters and local residents.
The lack of action on this issue continues to frustrate citizens, with many calling for a clear, actionable plan from the authorities to solve the traffic nightmare. As the area continues to grow, the need for a wider, more efficient road network is becoming increasingly critical to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and prevent further disruptions to daily life.
