Families in Wagholi and Awhalwadi await a steady water supply as the project nears completion. A final transformer installation promises relief within days.
Wagholi, June 24, 2025 – For the residents of Wagholi and Awhalwadi, a long-awaited solution to their water needs is almost here. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is in the final phase of its augmented water supply scheme, launched in 2019 to support these fast-growing communities. With only a transformer installation left on the riverbed, the project is on the cusp of delivering clean, reliable water to countless households.
Despite challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and pipeline-laying hurdles that paused progress at several points, the PMRDA has completed all major project components. The pipeline, sourced from the bund at Vadhu, is now ready, and the transformer setup is expected to finish within 8 to 10 days, followed by a trial run to ensure smooth operations. Meanwhile, the broader Bhama Askhed water project, which will provide an even more robust supply, continues to move forward with an expected completion in two to three years.
This milestone brings renewed hope to families, who look forward to a future where access to water supports their daily lives and growing community.
