Navi Mumbai | June 17, 2025: A major accident occurred today in the Vashi Plaza area of Sector 17, Navi Mumbai, as a boundary wall suddenly collapsed in the parking zone, crushing multiple vehicles and triggering panic among locals.
The incident took place amid continuous rainfall pounding Mumbai and Navi Mumbai since Monday evening. As predicted by the India Meteorological Department, several low-lying areas in the city, including Vashi, have begun to flood. The collapse at Vashi Plaza is suspected to be due to water accumulation weakening the structure.
While no injuries or fatalities have been reported, the damage to vehicles is extensive. A CCTV video from the spot has gone viral, capturing the dramatic moment of the wall’s collapse and showing a person narrowly escaping the debris by just a few seconds.
Emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel and municipal staff, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and clear the debris. Police have cordoned off the affected area to prevent further risk, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
Local residents are expressing concerns about the safety of nearby structures, especially as heavy rainfall is expected to continue. Civic authorities have been urged to conduct immediate inspections and preventive audits of vulnerable infrastructure in and around commercial complexes like Vashi Plaza.
