A New Wave of Urban Transport
Ports Minister Nitesh Rane revealed that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been finalized, outlining 8 to 9 maritime routes earmarked for development. Inspired by the success of the Mumbai Metro, the government aims to replicate the convenience—this time, on water.
Electric Boats & International Tech
The plan includes 30-seater electric vessels plying key routes like Gateway of India to Alibaug and Elephanta Island. In a major upgrade, 15 high-speed boats are being procured from Sweden’s Candela Cruise, with the first two expected to arrive by August 2025.
Why Water Taxis?

What’s Next?
The state is in talks with international consultants to fine-tune operations. If successful, this initiative could transform Mumbai’s commute, making travel not just efficient—but enjoyable.
