Widow of martyr Surendra Singh seeks euthanasia over unresolved land dispute and police inaction in Jhunjhunu. Alleging threats and harassment, she pleads with officials for justice or death.
Jhunjhunu | July 30, 2025: In a deeply emotional and distressing appeal, Om Kanwar, the widow of martyred soldier Surendra Singh from Chinchdauli village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, has requested the District Collector for permission to end her life. The request comes after months of alleged harassment and neglect in a land dispute that has remained unresolved for over eight months.
According to her written statement submitted to the District Collector’s office, Om Kanwar stated that on July 19, 2025, her neighbors—Vikendra Singh, Anand Singh, Raju Kanwar, and Surgyan Kanwar—attempted to take unlawful possession of her farmland. When she resisted, they allegedly covered her mouth and forcefully threw her out of her own land. A complaint was lodged at the Bagad Police Station, but she claims the police dismissed the matter, demanding that she bring eyewitnesses—a near-impossible task for someone living alone.
Two days after the incident, a false molestation case was allegedly filed against her cousin’s son Vikram Singh, which she believes was a move to further pressure and harass her. In her emotional letter, Om Kanwar said, “I am exhausted. I have been running between police stations and government offices for eight months, yet justice remains elusive.”
She further added that despite a court-ordered stay on the land, the accused continue to construct illegal structures, and when she protests, they threaten her life. “They tell me to transfer the land to them or be killed. I am the lone widow of a martyr—how can I fight against such people?” she wrote.
In a heartbreaking appeal, Om Kanwar has demanded that if justice is not served:
- The school named after her martyred husband in the village should be stripped of his name.
- Her son Narpat Singh, who is currently posted in Gulmarg, be allowed to meet her.
- Her last rites should be conducted on her disputed farmland.
Her request for euthanasia reflects the level of despair and helplessness she has reached. The administration has yet to respond to her plea, but her situation has sparked outrage and calls for immediate action across social platforms and veteran communities.
