In Yavatmal’s Arni taluka, a widow was sold by in-laws for ₹1.2 lakh to a Gujarati man. She bore him a child and returned after two years. A case is registered.

Yavatmal | July 22,2025:  A deeply disturbing case has come to light from Arni taluka in Yavatmal district, where a 42-year-old widowed woman was allegedly sold by her own in-laws to a man from Gujarat for ₹1.2 lakh. The shocking incident came to the surface only after two years and has triggered widespread outrage.

According to police reports, the victim lost her husband and son a few years ago. Left alone and vulnerable, she began living with her in-laws. However, instead of offering support, her husband’s family conspired to sell her. In 2023, her brother-in-law and other relatives allegedly sold her to one Suresh Popatbhai Chausane (48), a resident of Hirapur, Shankar taluka, Morbi district, Gujarat.

The accused reportedly took ₹1.2 lakh from Suresh, who made a disturbing deal with the woman — he told her that he wanted a child from her and promised to release her to her village afterward. The woman remained in Gujarat for two years, during which she gave birth to a son. Recently, Suresh brought her back to her native village in Arni, supposedly fulfilling the “agreement.”

The matter came to light during an investigation into a missing person’s complaint filed by the woman’s maternal family. Based on her statement, the Arni Police have now registered a case against her mother-in-law, brother-in-law, her late husband, and other relatives involved in the sale.

This inhuman act of trafficking a widowed woman by her own family has created a major stir in the region. Police have initiated a detailed investigation, and further legal action is expected soon.
