Massive 10-km traffic jam near Khed Shivapur as tourists crowd Mumbai-Bangalore Highway. Poor road conditions, incomplete repairs, and potholes worsen weekend congestion. Commuters demand immediate government intervention.
Pune | July 26, 2025 — With the arrival of the Shravan season and weekend tourist rush, the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway has once again turned into a traffic nightmare. A massive traffic jam stretching nearly 10 kilometers was reported today near the Khed Shivapur toll booth, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
The weekend rush of tourists heading toward popular monsoon destinations like Mahabaleshwar, Wai, and Satara has significantly increased the load on the Pune-Mumbai route. Saturdays and Sundays now regularly witness long queues of vehicles, especially during the monsoon months when the scenic beauty of the region attracts thousands.
However, tourist traffic is not the only reason behind today’s congestion. The deteriorating condition of the highway has made the situation worse. Incomplete roadwork, poorly maintained stretches, and large potholes have slowed down vehicular movement significantly. Despite repeated warnings and fines imposed on the IRB Infrastructure company by the authorities over the past few years, no concrete action has been taken to complete the necessary repairs.
The recent landslides on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway have already affected traffic flow in the region. Combined with the poor condition of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, the situation has now escalated into a daily struggle for thousands of commuters and tourists alike.
Citizens are now demanding urgent attention from the administration to resolve these issues and ensure smoother travel, especially during the monsoon rush.
