Ajit Pawar, during Pune visit, lashed out at officials and media over inefficiency and political distractions. He sharply responded to MLA Sharad Sonawane’s remarks, urging focus on development, not provocations.

Pune | July 26, 2025 — Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar was on a whirlwind inspection tour across Pune from 6 AM on Saturday, reviewing ongoing development works. However, the visit took a heated turn as Pawar lashed out at both local officials and journalists, displaying clear frustration over poor governance and political distractions.

While inspecting a key road project in Hinjewadi, Ajit Pawar was seen expressing anger at the local Sarpanch, blaming delays and inefficiency for threatening Pune’s development prospects. He warned that major IT investments could shift from Hinjewadi to Bangalore or Hyderabad if development issues aren’t urgently resolved.

Soon after, at a press conference, Ajit Pawar’s tone remained stern. When reporters questioned him about a controversial statement made by Independent MLA Sharad Sonawane, who supports the Shiv Sena Shinde group, Pawar snapped at the media. Visibly irritated, he dismissed the relevance of the question, saying,
“Is this the most important issue for Maharashtra right now? Since morning I’ve been talking about development, and all I get are questions about nonsense. Some people are perverted. I won’t waste my time reacting to every provocation.”

Ajit Pawar emphasized Maharashtra’s legacy as a “civilized state guided by Yashwantrao Chavan’s ideals” and stated that “wrongdoers will be dealt with, and those speaking irresponsibly will not be entertained.”

The controversy stems from a viral video in which MLA Sharad Sonawane made derogatory remarks about the Tribal Development Department, calling a minister “a fool and a thief,” and threatening to present him before the Chief Minister. He also targeted Ghodegaon Project Development Officer Pradeep Desai. After backlash, Sonawane later clarified that his remarks were aimed at officials, not ministers.

Ajit Pawar acknowledged the statement and said the matter would be looked into, but firmly maintained that the government will act only on “constructive and necessary feedback,” and not personal or reckless attacks.
