In Pimpri-Chinchwad, police arrested an American and an Indian-origin man for alleged forced Christian conversions. They promised prosperity for converting. A case under the Anti-Conversion Act is under investigation.

Pimpri-Chinchwad |July 28, 2025: A shocking incident of religious conversion has surfaced in the Pimpri Camp area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, where Pimpri police have arrested an American national and a person of Indian origin for allegedly attempting to convert locals to Christianity through inducements.

The accused, identified as Shaffer Javin Jacob (a U.S. citizen from California) and Steven Vijay Kadam, were found persuading people to abandon their religion, telling them that “Jesus is the only God” and that conversion would bring happiness and prosperity. A 16-year-old boy was also found involved but has been released after receiving a legal notice.

Shaffer had reportedly come to India on a one-year visa, and the circumstances of his visit have now raised serious concerns about a potential organized conversion racket. As per sources, the accused were targeting people in the Pimpri Camp area and attempting to influence them with religious propaganda.

Pimpri Police have booked both under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Authorities have assured a detailed investigation, given the possibility of larger networks operating under the guise of religious outreach. Citizens and social groups have demanded strict legal action, citing the potential threat such activities pose to social harmony.
