A man carrying a naked sword in Satara claimed it was a birthday gift. Alert traffic cops caught him calmly, seized the weapon, and registered a case under the Arms Act.
Satara | July 30, 2025: A dramatic and potentially dangerous situation unfolded in Satara on the night of July 28 when a young man was spotted roaming the city streets with a naked sword in hand, causing panic among locals near the Seven Star building in the ST stand area.
Around 9 PM, traffic police officers Amar Kashid and Tanaji Bhondbe received the alert and sprang into action. Acting swiftly and calmly, they located the man, identified as Praveen Vijay Ballal (28) of Enkul, Khatav taluka, wandering in the ST stand area.
Showing patience and tactical skill, the officers approached him, diffused the tension, and managed to disarm and detain him without any violence. The sharp sword was immediately seized.
Following this, the Satara Crime Branch arrived at the scene and took over the case. During interrogation, the youth claimed he had brought the sword from Pune as a birthday “gift” for a relative—an explanation that raised more concern than comfort.
Police have booked Praveen Ballal under the Indian Arms Act. Thanks to the vigilance and presence of mind shown by officers Kashid and Bhondbe, a potential tragedy was successfully averted in a crowded city area.
