World Tiger Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Kolhapur

Sahyadri Tiger Reserve celebrated World Tiger Day with dignitaries, conservationists, and villagers. Conservation successes were highlighted, contributors were honored, and eco-development tools were distributed to support forest-adjacent communities.

Kolhapur | July 29, 2025: Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Kolhapur, celebrated World Tiger Day 2025 with great enthusiasm at Shahuwadi. The event commemorated the 15 years of tiger conservation efforts since World Tiger Day was first declared on July 29, 2010, in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The program was chaired by Mr. Tushar Chavan, Deputy Area Director, Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Kolhapur. Several dignitaries graced the event, including Gokul Director Mr. Karnsingh Gaikwad, former Construction Chairman Mr. Sarjerao Patil, and officers from Koyna and Chandoli Wildlife Departments.

Deputy Director Mr. Kiran Jagtap opened the program by highlighting conservation achievements in Sahyadri over the past decade and a half. Notable guests like Mr. Aditya Paranjpe (Honorary Wildlife Ranger, Pune), Mr. Girish Punjabi (Senior Researcher, WCT Mumbai), and others presented valuable insights on tiger conservation, translocation, and migration patterns.

Distinguished contributors to tiger conservation and research were felicitated, including Mr. Punjabi, for his decade-long research on Western Ghats wildlife corridors. The Aap Jeevan Foundation also contributed conservation materials under CSR initiatives.

To support eco-development in forest-adjacent villages, tools such as rotavators, water tankers, flour mills, sewing machines, and solar lights were distributed under the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Jan Van Vikas Yojana.

In his keynote address, Mr. Tushar Chavan emphasized the vital role of tigers in the ecological food chain and assured that Sahyadri Reserve would continue to promote tourism-driven development in forest villages.
