46 vaccine boxes worth ₹2.43 crore were stolen from a moving truck on Samruddhi Highway near Washim. The theft was discovered mid-route; police investigation is currently underway.
Washim | August 1, 2025: A shocking case of highway theft has surfaced near Karanja in Washim district, exposing major security concerns on the Samruddhi Mahamarg. A truck carrying 408 vaccine boxes from Bhiwandi (Mumbai) to Kolkata via Nagpur and Raipur was targeted mid-route. The theft was discovered when the driver noticed a rise in temperature at the rear of the truck and saw three men fleeing from the vehicle.
The truck, operated by Mahesh Cargo Movers Transport, had halted for refueling at Dongaon in Buldhana district before resuming its journey. Upon reaching Karanja, the suspicious activity prompted the driver to immediately alert police via helpline 112.
Police rushed to the scene and brought the truck to the Karanja Rural Police Station for inspection. It was found that 46 boxes of vaccines—worth ₹2.43 crore—were stolen. The stolen vaccines were part of a high-value medical consignment meant for hospitals.
A case has been registered, and police teams have been deployed to track down the accused. The incident has sparked serious questions about cargo safety and surveillance on the Samruddhi Highway.
