A 21-year-old man, Sanket Patil, was arrested in Kavathemahankal for raping a minor relative after luring her via Instagram, promising marriage, and later threatening her life.
Kavathemahankal | August 01,2025: In a disturbing incident in Kavathemahankal taluka, a 21-year-old man, Sanket Dattatray Patil, has been accused of raping a minor girl, who is his relative, after deceiving her through Instagram. The Kavathemahankal police registered a case against Patil on Wednesday night based on the victim’s complaint.
According to details, Patil, a resident of Kongnoli in Kavathemahankal taluka, exploited his familial connection to gain the victim’s trust. In October 2023, he initiated contact via Instagram, gradually building a rapport with the minor. The communication continued regularly, leading to a heinous crime in May 2024. Knowing the girl was underage, Patil lured her to a meeting at Dandoba Path, where he allegedly raped her, promising to marry her when she turned 18.
The abuse did not end there. On June 20, 2025, Patil took the victim to the foot of Dandoba mountain under the pretext of a bike ride from a parlor in Kavathemahankal and raped her again. When the victim, now 18, demanded marriage, Patil refused and threatened her life, saying, “Do whatever you want, but if you tell anyone, I will not leave you alive.”
Showing immense courage, the victim reported the incidents to the Kavathemahankal police. A case has been filed, and Police Sub-Inspector Vaibhav Patil is leading the investigation. The incident has caused widespread shock and outrage in the taluka, raising concerns about safety and trust within communities.
