Baramati | August 2, 2025: A shocking incident occurred aboard a state transport (ST) bus traveling from Baramati to Indapur on Friday morning, when a youth sitting in the back seat was suddenly attacked with a sickle by the passenger next to him. The brutal mid-journey assault left the victim seriously injured and sent shockwaves among passengers.
The accused, reportedly mentally unstable, was barefoot and partially dressed below the waist, carrying the bloodied sickle in hand when he was taken into custody. A video capturing his dramatic arrest by the police has since gone viral on social media, adding to public concern.
According to officials, the incident unfolded around the Katewadi area, when the attacker pulled out a sickle from his bag and struck the youth beside him. Chaos erupted inside the crowded bus, and passengers were left panicked and stunned. The attacker then attempted to harm himself, reportedly targeting his own neck with the same weapon. However, alert passengers intervened and prevented further harm.
The injured youth managed to get off the bus at Katewadi, while local police rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call. The attacker was subdued forcefully and arrested on the spot. Eyewitnesses described the scene as traumatic and confusing.
The bus belonged to Indapur depot, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities have stated that a thorough investigation is underway, and the mental health condition of the accused is being evaluated.
