Gonda, Uttar Pradesh | August 4, 2025: A tragic accident unfolded early Sunday morning in Gonda district, claiming the lives of 11 people when a Bolero vehicle lost control and plunged into the Saryu canal near Belwa Bahuta Rehra Mod, under the Itiathok police station limits. Among the deceased are 5 women and 6 men, while three others remain critically injured. The vehicle was carrying 15 individuals, most of whom belonged to the same family and were headed to Prithvi Nath Temple to offer water as part of Sawan rituals.
Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying moments when the vehicle doors failed to open, trapping passengers inside the submerged car. Locals rushed to the scene, ultimately rescuing survivors by breaking the car’s glass windows.

The driver reportedly survived the accident and is being questioned. The deceased were all residents of Sihagaon under Motiganj police station jurisdiction.
The tragedy occurred amid heavy rainfall, which is believed to have contributed to the loss of vehicle control. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath swiftly responded to the tragedy, expressing deep sorrow and extending condolences to the grieving families. Through a post on social media platform ‘X’, CM Yogi described the incident as “extremely sad and heartbreaking,” and announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
He has also instructed district officials to ensure immediate hospitalization and proper medical care for the injured, along with expediting the compensation process.
Authorities are continuing investigation into the accident, while locals have demanded better road safety measures, especially during monsoon season.
