A Swift car carrying six people plunged into a 500-meter gorge near Chanwas, Himachal Pradesh, killing all. Entire family lost. Rescue teams recovered bodies; CM and ex-CM expressed condolences.
Shimla | August 8, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident near Chanwas in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, a Swift car lost control and plunged into a 500-meter-deep valley, killing all six passengers on board. The deceased include government school teacher Rajesh Kumar, his wife, two teenage children, his brother-in-law Hemraj alias Fauji, and another villager who had taken a lift.
The family was returning from Banikhet, where Rajesh had gone to bring his children home. Around a kilometer before reaching Chanwas Shahwa, the car lost control and tumbled into the valley late at night. The crash was so severe that the vehicle was reduced to debris. Locals heard the horrifying sound and quickly alerted the police and administration.
Rescue teams rushed to the site and retrieved the bodies. The exact reason behind the loss of control is being investigated. The incident has left the entire region in mourning.
Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and former CM Jairam Thakur expressed deep condolences over the tragedy. CM Sukhu assured all possible assistance to the families of the victims, while Thakur shared his sorrow on social media, terming the incident “deeply saddening.”
