Daily wage cleaners in Maharashtra police stations will receive minimum wages and pending arrears, following Minister Yogesh Kadam’s orders. Around 1,800 workers will benefit from wage parity and regularization measures.
Mumbai | August 8, 2025: A long-standing demand for fair wages of daily wage cleaners working in police stations across Maharashtra is finally being addressed. Minister of State for Home (Urban), Yogesh Kadam, has instructed that these workers be paid minimum wages as per the government notification dated January 27, 2017, along with pending arrears.
The decision follows earlier directions issued by then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who emphasized that daily wage sanitation workers in police establishments must receive the government-notified minimum wages. In a recent meeting held at the Ministry, Minister Kadam reiterated that no sanitation worker should be subjected to injustice, and directed swift action to implement the orders.
According to Kadam, approximately 1,800 daily wage workers are currently employed at police stations across the state. He insisted that these workers deserve wage parity and should be given the same salary and allowances as their counterparts in other departments. He also called for the implementation of the Lad-Page Committee’s recommendations concerning permanent sanitation staff in the Home Department.
Inspector General of Police (Administration) Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy Secretary Ravindra Patil, and representatives of the Maharashtra State Sarva Shramik Sangh including Uday Bhat and Jeevan Surude were present during the meeting. The move is seen as a significant step toward ensuring justice and financial dignity for thousands of essential yet under-recognized workers in the system.
