Ambegaon Jewelry Theft – Woman Spikes Cold Coffee
The two women first became friends while studying together in Sadashiv Peth, Pune. Later, after marriage, coincidentally, both had in-laws from Ambegaon Budruk and Ambegaon Pathar on Sinhagad Road. This allowed them to visit each other’s homes after marriage frequently.
One of them had an interest in the stock market and online gaming, which led to financial losses. Desperate, she plotted to rob her own friend. She visited her friend’s house and secretly mixed dizziness-inducing medicine into cold coffee. After her friend drank it and became disoriented, the woman stole jewellery worth ₹5.46 lakh from the cupboard.
A 31-year-old woman filed a complaint at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station regarding the theft. The police arrested her 25-year-old friend from Ambegaon Pathar, and the court has remanded her in custody until April 6.
The incident occurred on March 6 at 4 PM at the complainant’s house in Ambegaon Budruk. According to police, the two had been friends since their student days in Sadashiv Peth—the complainant was a trainee in a course, while the accused was preparing for a competitive exam. After marriage, they moved to Ambegaon Budruk and Ambegaon Pathar, respectively, and maintained their friendship.
On the day of the incident, the accused brought cold coffee to her friend’s house. After drinking it, the victim felt dizzy, allowing the accused to steal the jewellery. The victim only realised the theft days later when she noticed the missing ornaments. She immediately reported it to the police, who investigated and arrested her friend. Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Mokashi is handling the case.
