Nagpur, April 13, 2025 – A 2021-batch IPS officer, currently serving as the Sub-Divisional Police Officer in Nandurbar district, has been booked on rape charges following a formal complaint lodged by a 28-year-old woman doctor, prompting a police investigation into the matter.
The woman accused the officer—a native of Yavatmal—of sexual exploitation under the false promise of marriage, along with mental and physical abuse. In a shocking twist, the officer’s cousin sister has also been named in the First Information Report (FIR), both under Sections of the IPC and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. If found guilty, the charges could lead to a minimum of 10 years imprisonment, or even a life sentence.
Allegations Rooted in Caste Bias and Betrayal
According to the complaint, the officer ended the relationship after citing the woman’s caste as a reason for not proceeding with marriage. She alleged prolonged mental harassment and physical abuse during the course of the relationship.
Relationship Began on Social Media
Sources revealed that the officer met the survivor three years ago through social media. He reportedly gained her trust by promising marriage and offering assistance with UPSC exam preparation. As their bond deepened, the officer allegedly took the woman on trips to Kerala and Hyderabad.
The first instance of alleged sexual exploitation reportedly took place at a hotel near Ashok Chowk in Nagpur. Later, the woman was repeatedly assaulted at the home of the officer’s cousin in Rana Pratap Nagar. The cousin has also been booked for aiding the crime.
Survivor Faced Resistance Before FIR Was Registered
The woman initially approached Imambada police station to file a complaint but was allegedly discouraged from pursuing the case. However, she remained firm in her stance and vowed to take legal action. It was only after she threatened to approach the judiciary that the police formally registered the FIR.
