Anshu Kashid | Pune| April 18, 2025 : Maharashtra’s Public Works Minister, Shivendrasinh Abhaysinhraje Bhosale, has instructed officials to begin the phased restoration of forts linked to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The initiative aims to enhance tourism by developing essential infrastructure, creating attractions that encourage longer stays, and improving road connectivity to these historical sites.
These instructions were given during a review meeting of the Pune Regional Division of the Public Works Department on Thursday. Minister Bhosale emphasized the importance of preparing a detailed report with plans for enhancing amenities and improving access to the forts.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer Atul Chavan, Pune Board Superintendent Engineer Bappa Bahir, Solapur Board’s SS Mali, Satara Board’s SB Rokade, Kolhapur Board’s Tushar Burud, Vigilance and Quality Control Board Superintendent Engineer Surendra Kankarej, and executive engineers from across the department.
Minister Bhosale highlighted the potential of tourism as a major employment generator, noting that Maharashtra has significant growth prospects in this sector. He also pointed out that increasing foreign investment is driving industrial development in the state, stressing the need to connect tourist destinations to key roads as part of the state’s broader infrastructure development.
Additionally, he directed that a survey be conducted on traffic congestion in Mahabaleshwar (Satara district) and the Konkan region to improve travel conditions and enhance the visitor experience.
During the meeting, Chief Engineer Chavan provided a presentation outlining the department’s operations. It was also announced that the Pothole Complaint Redressal System (PCRS) mobile app has been launched, allowing citizens to report potholes.
