In the early hours of Monday, a tragic road accident occurred on the Mumbai-Goa National Highway near Bharna Naka, claiming five lives and injuring two others seriously. The victims were two Mumbai families traveling to Devrukh for a funeral when their vehicle fell about 100 feet off a bridge into the Jagbudi river near Khed.
The accident took place between 5:00-5:30 am, when their Kia car lost control and fell from the bridge. All five passengers died on the spot, while the driver and another passenger sustained serious injuries.
Medha Parmesh Paradkar, Saurabh Parmesh Paradkar (22), Mitali Vivek More (45), Nihar Vivek More (19), and Shreyas Rajendra Sawant (23) have been identified as victims of the loss of life. They were all from the Mira Road-Bhayander and Nallasopara areas.
The families had left Mumbai around 11:30 pm to attend a relative’s funeral in their native village. Tragically, their journey ended in disaster before dawn.
Local police reached the site promptly after being alerted and, with the help of locals, managed to pull the victims from the vehicle. The injured, Parmesh Paradkar and Vivek More, were first treated at a hospital in Kalambani and later shifted to government hospitals in Ratnagiri and Khed due to the severity of their injuries.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, and a deep pall of grief has settled over both families and neighborhoods in Mumbai.
