Pune | May 19, 2025: A tense situation erupted in Bibwewadi following a stunning incident in which six men allegedly fired at a youth after an altercation over a minor bike accident. The Bibwewadi police have caught hold of two accused with four others remaining on the run.
The victim, Amit Lakde (28), of Upper Indiranagar complained that the altercation broke out after one of the accused, Ganesh Bhalke (21), lost balance on his bike and rammed into Lakde’s two-wheeler. Rather than letting the matter end, Bhalke and his friends allegedly began abusing Lakde for having approached the police to report the accident.
The incident went out of control when Bala Gade, one of the suspects, drew a gun and shot at Lakde. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries during the firing, but the incident has sparked panic within the neighborhood.
The police have also arrested Ganesh Bhalke and Deva Dolare (22) both of Upper Indiranagar. Their accomplices Bala Gade, Babya Pandhekar, Sunny Shidi, and Bunty Mhaske have also been filed a case against and they are absconding.
This shooting incident is a horrific reminder of how petty misunderstandings are spiraling perilously into brutal crimes. A motorcycle mishap, which could have ended with apology and a police complaint, instead became a close-to-death encounter. Use of firearms in daylight is a sign of a deep-seated gang culture that requires immediate crackdown. Police are not only expected to arrest the remaining accused but also to convey emphatically that lawlessness in the localities of Pune would not be accepted.
