Pune| May 23, 2025: Maharashtra made waves at the Khelo India Beach Games 2025 held at Ghoghla Beach, Diu, with standout performances in the open water swimming events. Pune’s Diksha Yadav emerged as the champion in the women’s 10 km open water swim, clinching gold with an impressive timing of 2:18:09.
Diksha, who has only two years of experience in competitive open water swimming, acknowledged her delight and said that the experience was unforgettable despite sporadic wave trouble. “Swimming in the Arabian Sea proved to be exciting yet demanding. Although waves caused limited vision at times, she claimed, she learnt a lot.
Alongside Diksha, fellow Pune swimmers Purva Gawade and Chaitanya Shinde, trained under Krida Prabodhini, brought more glory to the state. Purva bagged bronze in the women’s category with a time of 2:33:52, just seconds behind the silver medalist. In the men’s category, Chaitanya clocked 2:13:14, also earning a bronze medal for Maharashtra.
Karnataka’s Renukacharya Hodamani won gold in the men’s category, while Arna MP from Tamil Nadu took silver in the women’s event.
These stellar performances not only reflect the growing strength of Maharashtra in aquatic sports but also underline Pune’s emerging dominance at national-level beach games.
