Pune| May 29, 2025 : Pune Police are rolling out AI-powered CCTV cameras across the city to curb crime and enforce traffic discipline. In the first phase, 100 smart cameras will be installed at major roads and junctions. These cameras will automatically detect violations like speeding, no-parking, helmetless riding, missing seatbelts, and driving in the wrong direction.
Out of the 2,866 AI-enabled cameras planned, old ones have already been replaced, with more to follow. A dedicated Integrated Command and Control Center at Shivajinagar police HQ will monitor footage in real-time.
This tech-savvy initiative is not just for catching criminals—it aims to streamline traffic enforcement, reducing the manual effort and time spent reviewing footage. The AI will analyze up to 15 traffic rule violations, helping authorities take faster and more accurate action.
The city’s existing CCTV network will now evolve into a real-time intelligent surveillance system, transforming how both crime and traffic indiscipline are handled.—
