Pune | June 5, 2025: A horrific road accident occurred near Tembhurni in Adhegaon Shivara on the Solapur-Pune highway early Thursday morning, as a private passenger vehicle travelling from Sadar Shirpur (Latur) to Pune overturned after the driver allegedly fell asleep while driving.
The accident left 30 passengers injured, with 20 of them reportedly in critical condition. The vehicle lost control at dawn and plunged into a roadside ditch, causing widespread chaos and alarm among the passengers and nearby villagers.
According to initial accounts, the vehicle — resembling a passenger train coach in design — was badly mangled in the accident. Locals rushed to the scene and immediately began rescue efforts, helping to pull out the injured and transport them to nearby hospitals. Most of the passengers hailed from Pune and Marathwada.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver appeared to have dozed off, leading to the vehicle overturning. The sudden loss of control resulted in a devastating crash.
Emergency response teams and police arrived soon after the incident and began investigating the scene. Authorities are now working to determine exact causes and potential lapses in vehicle safety or driver fatigue protocols.
This incident is part of a growing series of accidents reported across Maharashtra in recent days, sparking renewed demands for enhanced road safety measures and stricter enforcement of driver rest regulations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
