Mumbai | June 9, 2025: After an early and intense start, the monsoon has slowed across Maharashtra, leaving farmers and citizens awaiting consistent rains. Weather officials now expect the monsoon to regain momentum starting June 13.
The initial downpours in late May had caused significant disruptions across parts of the state. However, rainfall has since tapered off, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirming that conditions are currently not favourable for widespread rain.
Half of Maharashtra is presently covered by the monsoon, but regions like Vidarbha and Khandesh are still awaiting full activation. In the interim, light rain is expected at isolated spots in 29 districts through June 12.
Today (June 9), moderate rain is likely in seven Konkan districts, including Mumbai. Between June 10 and 12, the intensity of rainfall will reduce further. Meanwhile, rising heat due to this rain break has added to public discomfort.
The IMD forecasts that the Mrig Nakshatra period will bring higher chances of rain. From June 13 onward, moderate showers are likely to return across Maharashtra.
Farmers have been advised by the Agriculture Department to delay sowing activities until consistent rainfall resumes.
Isolated thunderstorms with lightning, winds of 30–50 kmph, and light to moderate rain are forecast across Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha in the coming days.
“Patience is key — steady rain is expected soon,” a weather official said, reassuring residents and farmers alike.
