State approves ₹574 crore plan for Bhimashankar and Sinhagad Fort upgrades. Work includes roads, sanitation, eco-tourism, fort conservation, and cultural infrastructure. Tenders to open soon; projects to begin shortly
Pune | June 12, 2025: A massive ₹574 crore development plan for Bhimashankar pilgrimage site and Sinhagad Fort has been officially approved by the state government’s high-powered committee, paving the way for infrastructure upgrades and tourism enhancement. District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that the tendering process will begin shortly, and physical work will commence soon after.
The state’s focus is on boosting tourism and religious travel as alternative economic engines. Bhimashankar, known for its spiritual significance, sees a heavy inflow of devotees year-round, while Sinhagad Fort remains a popular trekking and historical site. In response to this footfall, the district administration submitted a detailed proposal addressing both heritage conservation and modern amenities.
The approved Bhimashankar plan includes road development, drinking water facilities, sanitation, eco-tourism initiatives, and structural enhancements to support pilgrimage activities.

The Sinhagad Fort-specific plan, costing ₹285.99 crore, includes:
- Fort conservation and protection
- Infrastructure for cultural and folk art performances
- Trekking route development
- Parking and emergency services
- Landscape and lighting upgrades
- Improved water supply and public utilities
Authorities stated that previous encroachments have already been cleared, eliminating the need for new land acquisition — speeding up the project timeline. With official clearance now in place, the projects are expected to kick off in the coming months.
