Shreyas Iyer’s Sobo Mumbai Falcons lost the T20 Mumbai League final to Maratha Royals, marking his second runner-up finish in 10 days after IPL 2025, despite a late batting recovery
Mumbai | June 13, 2025: Team India’s star batsman Shreyas Iyer has faced another heartbreak as captain — his second trophy defeat in 10 days. After guiding Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final but falling short against RCB, Iyer’s Sobo Mumbai Falcons also fell short in the T20 Mumbai League 2025 final, losing to Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, led by Siddhesh Lad.
The grand finale was held on June 12 at Wankhede Stadium, bringing the third season of the T20 Mumbai League (June 4–12) to a close. Despite high hopes riding on Iyer’s leadership, Sobo Mumbai Falcons posted 157/4 in 20 overs, just one run short of the 158-run target.
The top order disappointed, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring only 7, Amogh Bhatkal 16, and Iyer himself managing just 12 off 17 balls. At 72/4, Sobo seemed in deep trouble before Mayuresh Tandel and Harsh Aghav built an unbeaten 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket, reviving hopes with a gritty finish.
However, Maratha Royals chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare, finishing at 158/5 in 19.2 overs. The chase was anchored by Chinmay Sutar (53 off 49) and supported by Awes Naushad (38), Sahil Jadhav (22), and contributions from Sachin Yadav and Siddhesh Lad.
Veterans Rohan Raje and Vaibhav Mali calmly guided the team home, sealing the title.
Despite two final appearances as captain in less than two weeks, Shreyas Iyer ends both campaigns as runner-up. For cricket fans, questions now arise — when will this talented leader convert finals into titles again?
