
Pune police arrested two mobile thieves targeting Palkhi pilgrims near Market Yard. Swift action led to recovery of stolen phones and prevented further crimes during the religious procession.
As thousands of devotees participating in the annual Palkhi procession arrived in Pune, two opportunistic thieves saw a chance to prey on unsuspecting pilgrims. The incident occurred near Sharda Gajanand Temple in Market Yard area when several warkaris (pilgrims) reported their mobile phones stolen during the religious gathering.
The Market Yard Police, acting swiftly on complaints, launched a special operation under Senior Police Inspector Manisha Patil’s leadership. Through coordinated patrolling and surveillance, the team apprehended Prakash Devram Parihar (29), a resident of Lohiyanagar, and his accomplice Mohammad Manan Jamal Sheikh (25) from Market Yard. During interrogation, the duo confessed to targeting devotees amid the crowded procession. Police recovered two stolen mobile phones from their possession.
The arrests came through meticulous efforts by Police Constables Thorat, Kaustubh Jadhav, Raut, Lonkar, and Beat Marshals, working under the guidance of senior officers including Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil and DCP Dr. Rajkumar Shinde. Their quick response prevented further thefts during the sacred pilgrimage.
