A woman endures horrific abuse over unmet dowry demands, suffering a broken spine. Police investigate as she seeks justice and safety for herself and her daughter.
Lucknow, June 25, 2025 – A woman in Lucknow has faced unimaginable cruelty at the hands of her husband and in-laws, all over unfulfilled dowry demands for a car. Despite her family providing ₹5 lakh in cash, jewelry, and other items at the time of marriage, her husband, a dentist, and his family relentlessly pressured her for more. The harassment escalated into daily physical and emotional abuse, with her in-laws subjecting her to humiliation and serving her substandard meals.
The woman also alleges inappropriate behavior by her brother-in-law, which was dismissed by her husband and mother-in-law, who instead threatened her with divorce. The abuse reached a devastating peak when her husband, in a fit of rage, beat her so severely that he broke her spine. He then expelled her and their young daughter from the home, pronouncing triple talaq to sever ties. Even after this, he visited her parental home to demand a car, and upon refusal, reiterated the divorce.
The survivor’s courage led her to file a complaint with the Lucknow police, who have registered a case and begun investigations. Her story shines a light on the enduring pain of dowry-related abuse, as she and her daughter seek healing and justice in the face of unimaginable hardship.
