Fake news of Minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s death was spread using a forged TV logo on YouTube. Nashik cyber police filed an FIR. The video went viral, causing panic among over 1.5 lakh viewers.
Nashik, June 30, 2025: A serious case of misinformation shook Nashik after fake news claiming the death of senior NCP leader and state minister Chhagan Bhujbal was circulated on social media using a TV channel’s forged logo. The cyber police have registered an FIR against an unknown individual in connection with the viral video.
According to reports, a YouTube channel named ‘@Nana127tv’ posted a video falsely stating that Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhujbal had died of a heart attack. The video mimicked the branding of a reputed news outlet, making the misinformation appear credible. The misleading content was uploaded late on June 28, and by the next morning, it had already been viewed by over 1.5 lakh people, causing widespread confusion and concern.
The fraud came to light when Special Branch officer Sunil Baharwal, who monitors online platforms for objectionable content, stumbled upon the video. On investigating, he discovered that the video misused footage of Minister Bhujbal paying tribute to Ranjanitai Boraste, a public figure who had actually passed away. The clip was cleverly edited to spread false claims of Bhujbal’s own death.
Realizing the potential for public unrest and misinformation, the cyber cell in Nashik acted swiftly, filing a case under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act. The identity of the uploader is still under investigation.
Authorities have urged citizens to verify information before sharing, especially during sensitive events, and warned content creators against using misleading tactics to gain traction.
