Two ST buses collided in Sindhudurg’s Panval, injuring several passengers. Another car accident in Latur injured eight devotees. Both incidents highlight rising concerns over road safety and speeding.
Panval, Sindhudurg District, June 30, 2025: In a serious early morning road accident, two Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses collided head-on on the Banda-Dodamarg road in Sindhudurg district, leaving multiple passengers injured. The collision occurred around 6:45 am in Panval, triggering panic and traffic congestion in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened due to overspeeding. A Banda-Fukeri ST bus coming from Fukeri towards Banda collided with an Osmanabad-Panaji ST bus coming from the opposite direction. Though the driver of the Fukeri bus tried to brake, the bus skidded for nearly 100 feet before the impact.
Among the injured were college students traveling in the Fukeri-bound bus, who fortunately sustained only minor injuries. All the injured were swiftly admitted to the Banda Primary Health Center, where doctors confirmed they were receiving proper treatment.
The crash led to a brief traffic disruption, which was quickly managed by the local police after conducting a panchnama.
In a separate incident yesterday afternoon, eight devotees were injured in a car accident on the Nanded-Latur highway near Chakur in Latur district. The accident occurred around 3:30 pm at Algarwadi Pati, when the tire of a car carrying devotees from Pandharpur to Nanded burst, leading the driver to swerve the car 15 feet off the highway into a nearby field to avoid collision with an oncoming vehicle.
Thanks to the driver’s quick reflexes and airbag deployment, a major disaster was averted. The injured were promptly taken to the hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
With accidents involving state transport buses increasing, passengers and locals are raising questions about driver speed awareness and road safety. Many believe that regular training and stricter enforcement of speed limits are urgently needed to prevent such life-threatening incidents.
