Shiv Sena MLA Manisha Kayande has alleged that ‘urban Naxals’ have infiltrated Maharashtra’s Ashadhi Wari to spread anti-faith ideologies. The government has assured strict action after reviewing the claims.
Mumbai | July 2, 2025: As the sacred Ashadhi Wari reaches its final phase ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi on July 5 (Sunday), a serious allegation has stirred political waters. Shiv Sena MLA Manisha Kayande has claimed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council that ‘urban Naxals’ have infiltrated the Wari, using it as a platform to spread disruptive ideologies.
According to Kayande, “Atheist and anti-faith elements are participating in the Wari under names like ‘Samvidhan Dindi’, ‘Pyarvan Wari’, and ‘Lokayat’. They perform street plays, give provocative speeches, and attempt to mislead the devotees.”
She stated that such activities are undermining the spiritual and cultural sanctity of the Wari, which has been a symbol of Maharashtra’s devotion and tradition for centuries.

Kayande also reminded the House that in a previous incident, pieces of mutton were deliberately thrown on the road during the Wari, a move seen as highly disrespectful.
Renowned Warkari leader Bandatatya Karadkar has reportedly expressed his concern over the same and submitted a formal representation to the Chief Minister, seeking immediate intervention.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured the Council that the government is taking the matter seriously and will take appropriate action if any attempts to disrupt or politicize the Wari are confirmed.
Shinde emphasized that Ashadhi Wari is an emotional and spiritual journey for millions, and any attempt to disturb its sanctity will not be tolerated.
