Punit Balan Group will stop financial aid to Ganesh mandals playing loud or vulgar DJ music, urging a return to traditional, religious Ganeshotsav celebrations. Citizens widely support this cultural preservation move.
Pune, July 9: The grandeur of Pune’s Ganeshotsav, celebrated for over 132 years, is now under the spotlight for a transformative move. In an effort to restore the cultural and religious sanctity of the festival, Punit Balan, President of Punit Balan Group (PBG), has announced that no financial aid or advertisement support will be given to Ganpati mandals using DJ systems to play vulgar or loud music.
Speaking at a Samarth Pratishthan programme held for worshipping musical instruments of their Dhol-Tasha Pathak, Balan emphasized the need to preserve the festival’s traditional essence. Dignitaries such as MP Medha Kulkarni and Kasba Peth MLA Hemant Rasane were present during the announcement.

Balan said, “Ganeshotsav started as a movement by Lokmanya Tilak and Bhausaheb Rangari to unite people during the Freedom Struggle. It is now being overshadowed by blaring DJs and inappropriate songs. This is not our culture.”
He further clarified that Punit Balan Group and Manikchand Oxyrich, known for extending large-scale financial aid through advertisements, will no longer support such mandals. Only those upholding religious values, discipline, and cultural programs will receive sponsorship.
This stance has received wide support from citizens across social groups, as many believe it is time to restore the true spirit of Ganeshotsav in Pune.
