Western Maharashtra Weather Update: Rain Intensity Drops, Cloudy Skies Pose Risk to Kharif Crops

Western

Rainfall intensity has reduced across Western Maharashtra. Cloudy weather persists, raising concerns for Kharif and horticulture crops. Light rain is expected in most districts; farmers are advised to take preventive crop care.

Mumbai | July 10 ,2025:
After a strong spell of monsoon showers across Konkan, Ghatmatha, and parts of Vidarbha, rainfall activity is now showing signs of decline in most parts of Maharashtra, including Western Maharashtra. With the exception of East Vidarbha, rain intensity has weakened, offering brief relief but also raising new concerns for agriculture.

In Satara district, only 2 mm of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours, though the Koyna Dam catchment continues to see steady inflow. The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies and light rainfall today, and issued a yellow alert for the Satara Ghats, warning of possible heavy downpours in hilly areas.

Pune district is also experiencing reduced monsoon activity. Just 0.4 mm of rain was recorded in Shivajinagar over the past 24 hours. Temperatures are expected to remain around 30°C, with chances of light rainfall and mostly cloudy weather.

In contrast, Kolhapur district reported 6 mm of rainfall and a slight rise in temperature. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 28°C, while light rain is likely to continue intermittently.

Solapur, with 10 mm of rain recorded, is seeing a gradual rise in temperatures, currently around 31.6°C, and likely to reach 32°C today. The forecast includes light rain at isolated locations.

Sangli district saw 4 mm of rain, and similar cloudy conditions with light rain are expected to persist. The district is recording maximum temperatures of 31°C and minimums around 23°C.

Despite the relief from intense rain, persistent cloudy weather and intermittent showers pose a threat to horticulture and Kharif crops. The reduced sunlight and excess moisture can increase the risk of fungal and pest-related diseases. Experts are advising farmers to remain vigilant and adopt timely protective measures to safeguard crop health during this critical growth phase.
